We choose ignorance....and it is not bliss

The concerted effort to stifle complexity in every facet of our society (media, politics, industry, etc) will be the downfall of America in the 21st century. Stop trying to over-simplify everything and instead treat people like adults.

The explosion in Boston just happened, the media needs to chill and allow the feds to answer their own questions before they can answer ours.

In school I'm forced to learn a new concept being pushed 'generative thinking/governance' that attempts to reduce 4 complex frames of organizational into one punchline shtick. I guess if it'll sell books....there's a market for it. But just because u say a word 30x a page, doesn't mean I wont give a side eye...

Missing the conversation...

One of the great yet understated virtues of academia and the pursuit of higher education is the concept of intellectual curiosity. Six, going on seven years removed from the undergraduate experience, I find myself longing for the in-depth conversations among introspective individuals seeking to decipher the meaning of life, their place in it and their responsibility in shaping it. As I approach 30, I find myself wondering what happened to that conversation, and how do I find it and reactivate it in my life and the lives of those around me. Consciousness is what separates the strong from the weak, the owners and creators from the dependents and consumers. Whether we accept it or not, we are responsible for the things we know, and the things we do not. Abdicating our responsibility to continue to seek knowledge, to seek answers to the difficult questions in life, has become the downfall of American civilization. Comfort and complacency reduces the consciousness of man.

We must rekindle the conversation that began all those years ago, and remind our offspring of the real purpose behind the pursuit of higher learning. It is not about creating new factories-institutions that mass produces sub-par graduates (Hi Kaplan and for-profit money making schemes). Fostering a sense of intellectual curiosity is the foundation of the undergraduate university experience, and from my vantage point many of these "online university's" fall quite short of grooming their students to understand this concept. If we agree to the supposition that we are currently living in "the Information Age" then it is incumbent upon us to respect the importance of information, access to it, and the ways in which we use it to advance our communities and ourselves. The "haves" have for a reason, and the "have not's" simply have yet to figure out that reason. Convincing the "have not's" to desire to have a curiosity toward deciphering this equation is one of the great causes of my life and in 2013 I plan to make conscious steps toward rekindling this conversation.

Bipartisanship is Bullsh*t

Voters don't care about politicians working together, I mean it makes for a nice soundbite and photo-op, but what we really care about is our elected officials getting shit done. Also when you get shit done, you need to let us know because we quickly forget shit. We forget how close we came to the brink of economic disaster 2 years ago, and the fact that the stimulus, TARP, and auto bailout created by the Bush & Obama administrations actually stemmed the tide and stopped the bloodletting. They staved off a crisis of epic proportion, but that was sooo 2 years ago, and Barry wouldn't dare defend those initiatives with the forcefulness needed to make people believe him. Shit Bush/Cheney beat us over the head for over 6 months to convince the electorate that Saddam had WMD, even though he didn't and i think they knew that, the truth didn't matter so long as they told their lie enough times. Well on this front, Obama had truth on his side, but he was afraid of the polls and bloviators on TV so instead of beating the public over the head with the truth of his economic policies, he retreated into his cocoon until a month before this midterm election. Now as we move forward, i'm sure he'll say the public wants more cooperation and bipartisanship, yadda yadda ya, you can shove that sh*t up your arse, cause i'm not buying what you're selling. I voted for change i could believe in and instead you've given us mediocrity that ain't worth sh*t. buck up Mr. President or you'll go down just as fast as the Congressional majority you abandoned long ago.

Deficits matter...but not really...well only when (keep reading)

But only when the democrats are in charge, now that the republicans have taken the house, they'll push for an extension of the Bush tax cuts that doubled the deficit, and they'll have the raise the debt ceiling to accommodate the continuously soaring deficit. But don't expect them to take a hit on that in the polls, because deficits don't matter when they are in charge.

There was a poll a week or two ago that said 87% of Americans didn't know they received a tax cut under Obama. It was a part of that evil stimulus that he allowed Republicans and the media to decry for an entire year, so naturally when this ignorant public went to vote yesterday, according to exit polls they said their taxes had went up, yet there is ZERO evidence to support this. The spineless democrats instead of running on their record of CUTTING taxes, instead allowed themselves to be labeled tax increasers. President Obama waited until a month before the election to actually start giving a fuck about the political environment. Sorry Barry but the American public doesn't work on CP-time, they have a microwave attention span, you should've been hammering home your tax cuts for the past 2 years instead of merely reacting to everything the republicans said. Now you party has lost, and you likely continue this "wanna be bipartisan" charade, while they continue to flip you the bird and say NO to every initiative you propose. You might have found a foe to pound over the head for the next 2 years, but us principled voters actually know the truth. That truth is that you're just another spineless democrat with no principles to stand on.

I wonder...

I wonder what the Brits are thinking about these election results. You just know that they don't believe in that American exceptionalism bullshit, when we elect people for office that don't even believe in effective governance. Our whole system is bullshit, instead of choosing intelligent reasoned/seasoned political figures, we pick knee-jerk extremists who don't even believe in goverment, yet we still expect them to solve problems through government action, or inaction as will be the case over these next 2 yrs. They'll keep saying "f*ck u Obama" and he'll keep bending over backwards to accomodate them, we're all screwed!!!

The Price of a Cheap Thrill...

The mainstream media (MSM) prefers the myth of “everyone hates Washington” to the reality of ‘everyone needs a damn job to maintain their basic quality of life.’ Why was no one (MSM) paying attention when NAFTA was created during the elder Bush Administration, and then pushed through during Clintons Administration, culminating in the wholesale shipment of our manufacturing base overseas? We literally don’t make shit anymore; we buy everything from everyone else for a “cheaper price” not realizing that the flipside of the convenience of “Wal-Mart prices” is that your cousin doesn’t have a job to provide for his three kids. There’s no more Budd plant down on Hunting Park Ave, no more seamstress shop where you go to get your clothes made, shucks you can barely even find a butcher for a nice cut of meat.

We used to build things here in America: planes, trains and automobiles as the old saying used to go. We used to have a strong agrarian economy, now we have a HUGE farm bill and subsidies so farms don’t plant too much crop (weird right?). We built a transcontinental railroad (with cheap Chinese labor, but we won’t go there) and built the first airplanes thanks to the Wright brothers, President Eisenhower commission the national interstate highway system, and I guess this journey through history would require me mentioning landing on the moon, considering the fact we have gotten satellite technology from that advancement, I won’t begrudge it. My point is, we are no longer the great thinkers, and technologically advanced nation that we used to be, we don’t have the best and brightest minds being molded in our schools, or factories, we’ve sent ours overseas and those from overseas only come here for advanced education and then go back home. China is becoming the preeminent superpower in terms of manufacturing, engineering and soon I fear green technology. Yeah America still has the biggest and best weapons systems, but the biggest military in the world can’t plug a damn hole in the Gulf of Mexico, which to an objective person would showcase the limits of our power, but alas we believe our own hype too much to face such a reality.

The bottom line is, for America to be great again, we must build again, we must let go of the “cheap thrill” or our constant search for a cheap thrill, and face reality. Reality can be an inconvenient truth, but it’s still there and it’s still truth, we willingly pour billions into Afghanistan (nation building) while our own nation literally crumbles (insert image of Minnesota bridge that collapsed 2 yrs ago). Our kids are failing in our schools, and those that do succeed can’t find a decent job when they get out, then to add insult to injury they’re mired deeply in debt. It’s time to put our big stick down, (we can protect our village without invading others) and take the time to nation build here at home, create a counter-insurgency to combat the hopelessness and joblessness that’s plaguing large swaths of our nation. We can do it, it’s been done before, let’s do it again!!!
